Prevention of future deaths- 30 October Coroner reports

We will be joining No Births Behind Bars on Monday 30 October at 8.30am outside Surrey Coroner’s Court, Station Approach, Woking GU22 7AP, for the ‘prevention of future deaths’ part of the inquest into baby Aisha’s death, who died after her mother Rianna gave birth in-cell at Bronzefield prison.

No Births Behind Bars say: Last time No Birth Behind Bars went to the court, there were lots of news cameras, and they were able to show the media that the public do NOT want to see pregnant women in prison. Rianna, baby Aisha’s mum, thanked them for their support in what has been a harrowing and traumatic legal process. We are committed to showing up for her again.

30 October is a CRUCIAL day. It’s the final day of the inquest – and we need to keep the pressure on the MoJ and show them by our continuing presence and solidarity with bereaved mothers and hold MOJ to account on the need for radical change NOW.

Please see Sky News coverage from the vigil outside the MOJ on Wed 27 September, the fourth anniversary of baby Aisha’s death. They say: Sky News has spoken to three women who’ve experienced pregnancy in jail and describe it as a frightening, isolating and humiliating experience.
