Ending the presumption of contact in family courts

May 2024

We welcome this new report by Right to Equality (see below). We have been campaigning against “presumption of contact” since 2018, including throughout the passage of the Domestic Abuse Act when we lobbied for amendments to get it removed from the law altogther. We gave evidence to the Presumption Review Panel in 2023 which has still not reported! We welcome this renewed drive to END the presumption of contact, which gives abusive fathers a green light to fight through family courts, often for years on end, insisting on contact with their children who may want nothing to do with them because of the abuse perpetrated by their father on themselves and/or their mothers.
