Twine — an adoption show by Selina Thompson

Yard Theatre 31 August – 21 September 2024

Support not Separation are proud to be involved in this inspired play written & directed by Selina Thompson based on her own experience of adoption and now being performed at The Yard Theatre, London.

Twine is a play which “uses a single adoption file as a starting point, the work explores the long-term impact of social care systems, including adoption, foster care, prison, and judicial systems, and the circumstances that lead to people being caught up in those systems, and the harm they can inflict. . . . . This is an adoption show, written by a Sycamore tree and I am what she left behind. All is well, except…’When her biological sibling dies and her adopted mum falls ill, Sycamore breaks apart into Seed, Sapling and Bark. Thus begins a folkloric journey into their pasts and the futures of family and love. Irreverent and full of yearning, using original music, impossible conversations, and bloody eggs, Twine offers a unique odyssey into all that our families are, and all that they could be.”

At 4pm on Saturday 14 September after the Matinee showing of Twine there will be at a ‘Post Show Talk’ with Selina Thompson for an informal discussion with Interdisciplinary Artist Bobby Baker (Bobby Baker), Anne Neale (Support Not Separation) and Crissie Amiss (Women of Colour in the Global Women’s Strike) and Academic and Researcher Miranda Armstrong (Miranda Armstrong) This will be “A space for our panel guests, adoption & fostering community (activists, Social Workers, Adoptees & Artists), and audience to share and reflect on thoughts inspired by Twine.” The discussion will take place directly after the matinee performance and is included as part of the ticket to the performance.
